Is there a separate TABC renewal course? No. The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission does not offer a shorter or different renewal-only program. To renew, you complete an approved seller-server course again and earn a new certificate that is valid for another two years.
Can I renew before my current TABC card expires? Yes. In fact, renewing early is a good idea. Many workers renew 30–60 days before the expiration date so there is no break in their certification. Your new two-year period begins from the issue date on the new certificate.
What happens if my TABC certification is already expired? If your card has expired, you can still complete the online course and exam to receive a new certificate. Until you finish the training, your employer may choose not to schedule you in positions that handle alcohol, so it’s best to start renewal as soon as you notice the expiration.
I lost my old certificate. Can I still renew? Yes. You do not need your previous card in order to take the course again. Once you finish the training through LIQUORexam, you will have a new certificate you can save, print, and share with any current or future employer.
Does my employer get notified when I renew my TABC certification? Employers can log into their LIQUORexam corporate account to see completion records and download copies of certificates for staff who completed the course through their account. If you enrolled on your own, you can simply email or hand a printed copy of your certificate to your manager.
Is TABC certification required by Texas law? TABC certification itself is not mandatory under state law, but many Texas employers require it as a condition of employment because it supports safer alcohol service and can provide important benefits to the business when incidents occur.
