Understanding RBS Certification in California

RBS Certification in California signifies that an alcohol server has successfully fulfilled the requirements of an ABC-approved Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) training program, such as the one offered by LIQUORexam.com. This includes passing the RBS alcohol server certification exam, which is hosted by the ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control). Once an individual has successfully completed both the RBS training and exam, their RBS certification remains valid for a duration of 3 years.

Who is Mandated to Complete RBS Training?

The mandate for RBS training in California extends to anyone involved in serving alcoholic beverages. This encompasses a wide range of roles, including servers, bartenders, managers, owners, and individuals responsible for verifying customer identification, taking orders, preparing alcoholic beverages, serving them, and delivering them to customers. Steps to Achieve RBS Certification

Step 1: Obtain Your Server ID

Before embarking on this course, it's crucial to establish an account on the California RBS Portal, accessible at https://abcbiz.abc.ca.gov/, in order to acquire your unique "Server ID." This process incurs a nominal $3 fee. Your Server ID consists of nine digits and will be required at the conclusion of this training. It enables us to promptly report your completion to the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC). Failure to provide an accurate Server ID may necessitate an additional fee for account updates and resubmission of training proof to the ABC.

Step 2: Complete the LIQUORexam.com California RBS Training Program

Our RBS training program offers the flexibility of self-pacing, typically taking 2 hours or less to complete. The training is entirely web-based, permitting you to log out and seamlessly resume from where you left off.

Step 3: Successfully Pass the ABC Administered RBS Exam (Scoring 70% or Higher)

Upon successful completion of our online course, our system instantly forwards your training data to the ABC. This facilitates your access to the ABC-administered RBS exam. Subsequently, you can log in to the ABC Portal to access the final exam. It's important to note that you have a 30-day window from the date of completing this training (and passing the final exam) to access and complete the ABC RBS exam.

Is RBS Training Mandatory in California?

RBS training became mandatory in the State of California in 2022, as per CA Assembly Bill 1221. This mandate requires on-premises alcoholic beverage servers and their managers to complete an ABC-approved RBS training program and exam.

Who Must Complete RBS Training in California?

Every alcohol server and their manager must possess a valid RBS certification from an ABC-accredited RBS training provider and pass an online ABC-administered RBS exam.

Who Must Be Trained Under AB 1221?

Any ABC licensee with an "ABC On-Premises License" must have their staff (alcohol servers and managers of alcohol servers) trained and certified in RBS within sixty (60) days of their initial employment date. This requirement applies to various establishments, including restaurants, bars, fast-casual dining venues, tasting rooms (including off-sale locations), hotels, and stadiums.

What Happens if I Enter an Incorrect Server ID?

Upon successfully completing the training and passing the final exam, we will attempt to report your training to the ABC, enabling you to access the ABC-administered exam. If the Server ID provided during registration is inaccurate, a $5 fee will be applied to update your Server ID and attempt to report your training again. You will have the opportunity to verify your Server ID before taking the final exam. If the number is incorrect, you can contact us for a free update prior to accessing the exam.
